Understanding my first bill

NOTE: The information and formulas below are applicable whether you are on a per-call or per-minute rate plan.

You’ve received your first invoice, but it's higher than you expected. Don’t worry. The first bill is a little different from the rest. Here’s how it works:

SAS bills your rate plan one month in advance. Regular invoices include next month's rate plus last month’s overage charges.

Your first invoice has three charges:
  1. A one-time set-up fee of $50
  2. The next month’s rate plan
  3. A prorated charge for the time from the day after your free trial ends to the end of the month
Let's look at an example.

Each billing period begins on the 1st day of the month and ends on the last day of the month. Suppose your trial ended on the 10th of September and you chose the 100-minute plan at $117 per month. This is what would appear on your first invoice:
  1. What you'll see: One-time set-up fee
  • How it was calculated: Standard rate
  • Corresponding charge: $50.00
  1. What you'll see: October's base rate (billed in advance)
  • How it was calculated: According to the 100-minute plan you selected
  • Corresponding charge: $117.00
  1. What you'll see: September’s prorated base rate, from the 11th to the 30th (20 days)
  • How it was calculated: $117 per month ÷ 30 days in the month of September = $3.90 per day; ($3.90 per day) x (20 days) = $78.00
  • Corresponding charge: $78.00
All other bills will include these two charges:
  1. The regular monthly charge for the service you picked
  2. Overage in minutes that you accrued last month
Usage for your first month will also be prorated. So, if you are on the 100-minute plan and your trial ended on September 10th, then the prorated number of minutes for the remainder of that billing period would be approximately 67 minutes. Let’s say that from September 11th to the 30th, you used 10 minutes over your prorated amount. You will see a line item like this included on your second invoice:
  1. What you'll seeSeptember usage charges ($1.09 per minute based on the 100-minute plan)
  • How it was calculated: 100 minutes per month ÷ 30 days in the month of September = 3.33 minutes per day; (3.33 mins per day) x (20 days) = 67 available minutes; (10 minutes over) x ($1.09 each additional minute) = $10.90
  • Corresponding charge: $10.90
